Clifton Road Surgery would like to announce the arrival of our new Salaried GP, Dr Gower.  Dr Gower started as our salaried GP in August 2019 and holds clinics all day Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  With this in mind we wanted to remind you that every patient has a named GP.  Now Dr Gower is in place it has been necessary to allocate him as named GP to some of our patients.  Please note, anyone concerned or wanting clarification of their named GP can speak to Reception.  Please be assured those patients we will be changing will not be having regular on-going appointments/care.  If any patient has objections we will, of course, put you back to your previous GP.  We have consulted with our PPG who support the Practice in undertaking this.

NHS Health Worker Awards - A big congratulations to our Primary Care Practitioner/Nurse Team Manager ..... Helen Merrigan!  Helen received a Lifetime Service Award for all her hard work and dedication to the National Health Service.  I'm sure you will join us in saying this is a well deserved award to an exceptional person, who goes above and beyond!  Well done Helen.

Patients frequently complain that it is difficult to phone the surgery and their calls take too long to be answered.  A large number (up to 50%) of our calls are patients ringing because they forgot to request their medication in time.   This is not fair on the majority of patients who use the system appropriately.  These calls not only block our phones but create an inefficient system as the staff and doctors need to stop what they are doing to issue 'urgent prescriptions'.

 Please note we have over 5300 patients on repeat medications.

If you require a repeat of your usual  medication you can order it as below.

  1. Tick the right hand side of your prescription request form and drop it into the surgery. You will be able to obtain your prescription 48 hours later after 4pm at the surgery or from the chemist if you are set up with electronic prescribing.

  2. Send a self stamped addressed envelope to the surgery and we will post it back to you. (Please allow enough time for delays in the postal service)

  3. Register and use the portal (details below) to request your prescriptions on the internet. Once again your prescription will  be available 48 hours later after 4pm for you to collect from the surgery or if you are set up for electronic prescribing you can collect your medication from the chemist 48 hours later.

  4. Next time you have a medication review ask if you can have repeat dispensing where all your scripts are left at the chemist for 6 or 12 months.

If you want a repeat of a medication that is not on the right hand side of your prescription , you will need to write a note advising what you want and why.  If it can be issued then you should be able to collect the prescription 48 hours later.  If the medication cannot be issued you will be told why and what to do next when you come collect it but we do not have the capacity to call all the patients that request ad hoc medications.

You can now order your repeat (this does not include repeat dispensing/batch prescriptions) prescriptions through our website. In order to do this, you will need to register for PATIENT ACCESS.  You can do this either by coming in to the surgery where you will be given a password/access code or, you can register directly online by going to and clicking on the Patient Access tab.  If you choose to register directly online we will need to contact you to verify you have requested registration before you can access the service. You will need to contact the surgery so that we can activate the service/s you request. 

Repeat Dispensing (batch prescriptions)

If you have prescriptions issued for 6 or 12 months you will not be able to use this service. If you need a further issue of batch prescriptions you will need to make an appointment with a Doctor.


How to order repeat prescriptions

If you are on regular medication you will need to retain the right hand side of your prescription to submit when you next request your medication.

Repeat prescriptions will only be issued on receipt of this or by providing ALL of these details in writing. You can order your repeat prescription via the following methods:-

  1. Handed in to the surgery (prescription box)
  2. By post (including SAE for return)
  3. By completing your request online through Patient Access

When can you collect your prescription?

If your prescription request is received by 2pm, your prescription will be ready for collection 48 working hours later, after 4pm.

You will not be able to collect your repeat prescription/s on a Saturday .

Please note:

To avoid mistakes being made we will not issue prescriptions by telephone request. If you are on stable, regular medication, ask your doctor about repeat dispensing. This enables you to leave your prescriptions at the chemist to collect without having to request them from the surgery.

Please note this service is not suitable for all medications.
